What is timeless, ladylike beauty?

I am not speaking of the outer, superficial, 45-minute makeup session kind of beauty.  A woman is beautiful if she is beautiful in her spirit.  She exudes joy.  And her joy makes her pretty.  Even if she’s a little ill-favored in the looks department.  (We’re not all as blessed as say… Audrey Hepburn are we?  Think Taylor Swift for you younger readers.)

Have you ever noticed that small children rarely see ugliness in people?  They are attracted to gentle people… those they feel safe with.  And you know what?…  though they might not realize it, men are programmed the same way.  What will deepen his true attraction to a woman will be her gentle, nurturing, joyful spirit – especially when it’s accompanied by a smiling face.

Many of today’s ladies have a toughened exterior.  We’ve been told to be strong, independent fighters.  But the problem is…God did not equip us for that.  And it turns us… ugly.  Have you ever noticed how hardened a women’s features become when she is the driven, bossy, “I will win at EVERYTHING” kind of gal?  Who wants to come home to THAT?

He created us to be soft, nurturing, and helpful.  Ladylike.  He did not give us the broad shoulders, large muscles, and massive testosterone.  He gave us the opposite. So doesn’t it make sense that we would have the most fulfillment when we utilize the qualities He thoughtfully put into us? Those qualities should be used on our husbands, our children, our friends, and our neighbors.

When we take on the burdens that God designed the men for, we are left exhausted, depleted, and over-worked.  It’s just too heavy for us.  No wonder there’s no joy on our faces. Which means there’s not much joy on our families’ faces being reflected back. No matter how much we organize, plan, and “compartmentalize” our time buckets, we just weren’t meant to think or function that way.

So let’s bring back the beauty.  Thrive in the environment God designed for us ladies.  Be joyful and radiant… modest and classy…purposeful…soft.  Make it your goal to make your house a home and place of rejuvenation for your family and friends. That is where God will bless your efforts.  Be a ‘smile’ for your family.  And just see how pretty you get!
